Trump slams Putin for 'senseless' war deaths

US President Donald Trump has sharply criticized Russian leader Vladimir Putin, calling him responsible for a devastating war that Trump said "should never have happened".

In a telephone interview with US political strategist Scott Jennings, Trump did not hold back:

"I am very disappointed in Putin. Thousands of people are dying in a war that makes no sense. This would never have happened if I were president".

The former president pointed to the staggering human toll, saying that about 7,000 people, mostly soldiers, are dying every week.

The War Without End

Trump’s remarks came amid continued heavy fighting, with international observers warning of a protracted conflict and growing civilian suffering. Western governments continue to debate how best to support Ukraine while balancing security risks.

Hinting at U.S. action

While he did not provide details, Trump suggested that the United States would “do something” to help alleviate suffering and give people “a chance to live.” His comments could signal a shift in Washington’s stance if he secures a return to the White House.
